LolaGrace is a Dutch brand based in Amsterdam that combines handmade bags, jewelry, and accessories with modern style. From the Netherlands, we build bridges between artisan communities in South America and a conscious, style-focused audience in Europe.

Who are the Wayuu?

The Wayuu are an indigenous people living in the vast La Guajira Desert, in the far north of Colombia and northwestern Venezuela. They form the largest indigenous community in this region and are known for their strong cultural identity, resilience, and rich craft traditions.

Despite their dry and challenging environment, the Wayuu have carefully preserved and passed down their age-old knowledge and techniques from generation to generation. For them, craftsmanship isn't just work—it's culture, identity, and family history.

The Wayuu Mochilas: More Than Just Bags

One of the most well-known cultural expressions of the Wayuu people is the making of mochilas, the traditional, hand-woven bags that symbolize their heritage. Each bag is handmade and considered a work of art that reflects the weaver's story and personal expression. Making a Wayuu bag can take weeks to months, depending on the complexity of the pattern, and every stitch is meticulously placed. These bags have gained international recognition and represent the dedication, creativity, and culture of the Wayuu people. Every bag carries a story.

Our role

At LolaGrace, we work directly with artisans from La Guajira and other regions of South America. From Amsterdam, we bring these handmade pieces to an international audience, with respect for tradition and fair collaboration.
